Manufacturing
process of bright bar and its major types
Bright bar is a widely used raw material created from alloys of stainless steel. It is
manufactured in a cold reduction mill through cold drawing process. The
molecular structure of bright bar is geometrically precise and has an extremely
smooth surface finish that appears bright and shiny. This is the reason why it
is named as bright bar.
The
main component of bright bar is stainless steel with a varied ratio of carbon
and other elements such as iron, chromium, and manganese. Bright bar is widely
used in most of the industries out there and because of its durability,
strength, and corrosion resistance properties. Bright bar is also highly
machinable and possess high weldability, making it one of the best and highly
preferable choices for the construction of large, sturdy structures and
precision machining components.
Manufacturing
Process of Bright Bar
The
manufacturing of bright bar is carried out from black bars. Black bars are the
raw products obtained after melting raw materials. Bright bar is manufactured
by a process of cold drawing which include cooling the material at room
temperature. It is then followed by a fine-finishing process such as grinding,
annealing, turning, and polishing. These secondary processes then help to get
the final product with a close dimensional tolerance. The final product comes
with a range of surface finishes used for particular purposes.
Apart
from an excellent surface finish, bright bar also possess high degree of
straightness, susceptibility, resistance to corrosion, and concentricity. The
complete manufacturing process of bright bar includes three distinct steps that
are mentioned and explained below.
Rolling
of raw materials
In
the process of rolling, the raw material is passed through multiple hot rollers
with temperatures higher than the recrystallization temperature of the steel. The
process does not have any precise control over the bar forming. Because of
this, the formed bar is extruded and uneven.
Drawing
process
After
rolling through various temperatures, the formed bar is cooled down to room
temperature and passed through a drawing machine. A die is attached to the
machine that reduces the diameter of the bar and increases its length.
Final
product
After
passing through the drawing machine, the final product is obtained as a finely
surfaced bright bar that possesses enhanced mechanical and chemical properties.
Types
of Bright Bar
Round
bright bar: A bright bar is designed round in
shape via extensive heat treatment for providing extreme hardness. The
properties of a round bright bar can be easily enhanced by adding on other
elements to the alloy. The commonly used grades of round bright bar include
304, 309, 316, 316L, 316Ti, 321, 201, 202, and 400 series.
Rectangular
bright bar: Bright bar rectangular in shape
are highly preferable for the manufacturing of small machining components
because of their high resistance to external impacts and heat. Rectangular bright
bar made out of stainless steel are heat treated, cold drawn, annealed, and tempered
before they are used for the manufacturing of machining components and other
machining works. The diameter of a rectangular bright bar ranges between 12mm
and 50mm.
Hexagonal
bright bar: Bright bars hexagonal in shape are
mainly used for the manufacturing of threaded components and small fasteners.
These mainly include valves, nuts, fasteners, hexagonal bolts, hose ends, etc.
Hexagonal bright bar is highly used in most applications related to fastening
due to its durability and reliable strength. The major grades of hexagonal bright
bar include both the 300 and 400 series.
Major
uses of Bright Bar
Bright
bar is used as a major component in various industries for manufacturing
multiple products. Some of these applications include,
·
For designing chassis
and frames in the automobile industry.
·
To manufacture giant
structures in engineering and construction industries as it provide instant
strength, durability, and stability.
·
Used by machining
industries in the manufacturing of components of various sizes and shapes.
·
Used for the
manufacturing of trellis, fences, and railings in public places and societies.
·
Used for the
manufacturing of fastener products in ranging from mega size to mini size in
all industrial and non-industrial applications.
